Memere’s Walnut Date Balls

My Memere was a fabulous cook and her desserts in particular were absolutely divine.  These walnut date balls are no exception.  This is my grandmother’s (Memere) recipe, and I have to say, when my mom gave it to me, I was surprised it had no added sugar!  My Memere’s desserts, although delicious, were usually buttery, sugary concoctions!

That being said, the fact that there is no added sugar, sends these delicious walnut date balls to the healthy side and diabetic friendly.  Not only do they have no added sugars, but they are packed with protein and fiber.  Win win!

  • 2 C dates
  • 1 C organic raisins
  • 1 C walnuts
  • 1/2 C unsweetened coconut finely shredded


  • Put dates, raisins and nuts in food processor. Process until ground and fully incorporated
  • Using 1 TBSP of mixture, roll into 1 inch balls
  • Roll balls in coconut
  • Place balls on parchment paper lined sheet pan. Refrigerate for 2 hours
  • Serve and enjoy
