As the dog days of summer approach and we get closer to July (National Watermelon Month), I thought it would be great to give you some facts about this juicy, thirst quenching fruit we love with this sparkling watermelon cooler recipe.
Sparkling Watermelon Cooler....
has more to offer when it comes to our health and losing weight than you may have thought.
Just one cup has only 72 calories, less than 1 gram of fat, no cholesterol and less than 1% of your daily value of sodium.
Here’s my recipe for a yummy, thirst quenching watermelon treat.
Sparkling Watermelon Cooler
- 1 C watermelon cut in chunks
- 1 C ice cubes
- 6 oz sparkling water
- fresh mint
- Put all ingredients in your blender, whiz them up and enjoy!
- Garnish with a sprig of fresh mint.
In addition, this sparkling watermelon cooler provides healthy amounts of virtually all essential vitamins and minerals. In just 1 cup of watermelon, vitamins A and C are available in high quantities (providing 26 and 31% of your daily value). Vitamins A & C are powerful antioxidants, which help to neutralize free radicals.
The high water content of watermelon (92%) is part of what gives it such great fat burning benefits, helping to make your metabolism work more efficiently, while providing essential hydration. It also provides us with 18 grams of carbs, 1 grams of protein and 1 gram of dietary fiber, which means your body will need to work hard simply to process it, which is what makes it a healthy recipe for fat burning and weight loss.
Here’s another one of my tips: Add 1/2 of a banana for some extra added yummyness! Oh, and one more thing, you can also pour this into popsicle molds and freeze them for a delicious frozen treat that kiddos of all ages will enjoy!
